Puppy surrendered to the NJSPCA

Bismark

On March 17, 2010 Officer Theresa Cooper received a frantic call from an employee at the Puppy Palace in Moorestown Mall, located in Moorestown. The NJSPCA has received numerous complaints in the past regarding Puppy Palace.  Officer  Cooper was told that there was a puppy dying and the owner won’t do anything to help and she needed someone to get there right way.  When the NJSPCA arrived, Officer Cooper found Bismarck, an 11week old German shepherd lying down, very lethargic with reported diarrhea and vomiting with an elevated temperature of 104.5.  Bismarck, although not depicted well in the photo, had a body score of 1.  After a brief discussion with Ms. Karen Alexander Officer Cooper decided to seize Bismarck and get him to Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital.

Officer Cooper suspected that Bismarck had parvo and it was questionable if he could survive but Dr. Lingley indicated she will do everything she possibly can along with the staff at Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital to save his life.  The Burlington County Health Department, within one hour of notification quarantined this store due to the fact that a highly contagious disease was in fact present and there still were 6 puppies left behind.
Within 24 hours of Bismarck’s removal, his sister Sophia came down with the same symptoms of parvo. Unfortunately Bismarck’s condition has taken a turn for the worse.

Ms. Karen Alexander has surrendered the puppies in her store.  She has been charged with numerous counts of animal cruelty. All the puppies have gone to Columbus Central for any additional care they may need as well as quarantine. It has been determined that the puppies are being treated for various issues such as ring worm, giardia and coccidian, Once they have been cleared, the puppies will be up for adoption. This quarantine will last two weeks starting March 21, 2010.  All details will be handled by Ms. Lynn Pasquarella, the hospital administrator.
The following puppies will be up for adoption once cleared.
German Shepherd
Cane Corso
St. Bernard
Poodles (2)
Pointer Cross
Maltipom
