October 6, 2007, Ms. Carla Sigman of New Brunswick NJ was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 287 in her RV motor home with a flat tire. Ms. Sigman was transporting her dog, a Pit Bull strapped to the rear bumper in a transport crate. A dump truck driver Mr. Louis Salas was speeding on I 287 when he hit another car that subsequently crashed into the rear of Ms. Carla Sigman’s RV killing her dog. The truck driver Mr. Salas ran from the scene and was later caught by the NJ State Police hiding in a near by Cemetery. Mr. Louis Salas was issued motor vehicle summons including one for killing the dog. The court date for Mr. Louis Salas is set for January 16, 2008. After a thorough investigation Ms. Carla Sigman was charged with carrying a living animal in a cruel and inhumane manner. On January 3, 2008 in Franklin Township Municipal Court Ms. Carla Sigman pled guilty and was fined $750.00 plus $250.00 restitution to the NJSPCA. Total $1,000.00.
