Mr. Jerry Cash pled guilty to cruelty
On January 4, 2008 the NJSPCA received a call from Officer Young of Bordentown PD. He advised us that there were more than 15 cats living inside Mr. Jerry Cash’s residence. The excessive smell of feces and urine made for unlivable conditions
On January 5, 2008 Mr. Cash let me and Officer Young just inside the door. The smell of ammonia (urine/feces) was overwhelming. I noticed a large pile of hair just under a chair. I asked Mr. Cash what that was and he said it’s probably a stuffed animal. A closer inspection revealed the skeletal remains of an orange/tabby. Mr. Cash’s living conditions were undeniably unfit for him and his pets.
I read Mr. Cash his rights and then asked him to sign the Consent to Search Form. We also asked him to sign a surrender form for animal control so any animals that are subsequently found could be taken to a shelter. When LTC. Goldberg arrived on scene we took him to the second floor.
At the top of the steps was a pile of feces approximately a foot high and 4 feet deep, pushed back by a nearby shovel. Agent Kruse arrived to take photographs. Next on the scene was Mr. Nucera Chief of Police and Mr. Werner Nitschman -Bldg Inspector, who spoke with Mr. Rich Rancini about who would deem the residence unfit for humans/animals to live. Mr. Cash removed whatever belongings he would need to live elsewhere for the next few weeks.
On Feburary26, 2008 In Bordentown Municipal Court Mr. Jerry Cash pled guilty to the following. 5 charges of Failure to Provide Sustenance 4:22-17A1 $500 fine on each charge, 5 charges of Failure to Provide Proper Shelter 4:22-17A3 $500 fine on each charge. Total Fines $5,000.00 Restitution to SPCA $ 216.14 Restitution to the Township of Bordentown $1,050.00
