Mr. & Mrs. Stavraki plead guilty to cruelty

On February 27, 2008 Agent Evan Johnson responded to multiple complaints of two canines without proper shelter at a private residence in Hillsborough Township. Upon his arrival, agent Johnson observed a thirteen-year-old German shepherd shivering in an open garage that was in complete disarray. Utilizing a thermal heat gun, Agent Johnson recorded a temperature of zero degrees celsius, two degrees below the freezing point. The other canine, a young retriever, had fled the property.

Reports obtained from St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter and the Hillsborough Police Department revealed that the owners, Mr. William Stavrakis and Mrs. Kathleen Stavrakis, have an extensive history of allowing one canine, the retriever, to run the streets at large. After a thorough investigation by Agent Johnson, charges were filed in Hillsborough Municipal Court for failure to provide proper shelter to both canines and numerous dates. Separate charges were also filed by the Hillsborough Police Department and the Animal Control Officers from St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter.

On June 3, 2008 in the Hillsborough Municipal court Mr. and Mrs. Stavrakis both pled guilty before Judge Richardson to four counts of animal cruelty resulting in the maximum fine for each count totaling $4,000 plus $469.64 in restitution.
