UPDATE 1
Investigator Cooper has found a home for Katie. The horse will be in foster care until later in October and then she will be moved to her new home. A visit from an equine dentist as well as a veterinary checkup still has to be done. The payments will be made from the many donations the NJSPCA received from caring people. A great thanks to Investigator Cooper and all of the many volunteers that made this happen !!
UPDATE 2
Katy is filling out really nicely. You can barely see her ribs and her back is starting to fill out. Her rain rot is cleared up now. Katie’s foster family is working on getting her a more normal diet again. By the time she leaves she'll be on 30 ounces of feed twice a day. Right now she gets 30 ounces of senior feed, 1 very small scoop of soaked beet pulp, 1/2 cup of oil, and 1 small scoop of bran all soaked in water to make a mash. I'm cutting back on the beet pulp and water every day so she will only be on the regular senior feed by the time she leaves. We don't want to have her leave here on some kind of crazy feeding regimen that no one will want to follow. Having her teeth done has done wonders for her weight.
She still gets groomed at least once a day. Unfortunately we don't always have time to brush her twice a day anymore.
We think she is doing remarkably well. She still has a little attitude and will always need to be tied or stalled during feeding time. She leads very well and is more trusting of people now too. |
